WHAT IS THAI BOXING

Thaiboxing (Muay Thai) is a Thai martial art also known as the 8 weapon techniques (fists, elbows, knees, and legs). Thaiboxing is extremely effective in combat and defense. Unlike other martial arts, combinations of knees, elbows and throws, kicks and punches are used to overcome the opponent.

Muay Thai dates back to the kingdom of Sukothai around the 14th century and has since developed. There is not much documentation about the origins of the sport, as much has been lost during war.

It is known that the soldiers and warriors used and developed the techniques of Thai boxing so that they could win in close combat against the neighboring countries, which are known today as Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Malaysia.

Today, Thaiboxing is Thailand's national sport, and is practiced by thousands worldwide. In Thailand alone, there are several hundred training camps, many of which already start as children at the age of 8-9. Most train several hours a day, preferably early in the morning with a 10 km run after hard training and sparring. After lunch and the heat has subsided, they train technique and sparring again until evening. Most have several matches a month and it is not unusual to have had up to a hundred matches before becoming professional.
